yo

empowering weather.

i took a b62 bus to brooklyn this fine day. the bus situation at queens plaza is kinda scary with all the random construction and stops being blown up. for months now i have been asked (as have others) what happened to the rikers island bus? the q100 limited to rikers used to stop where a bunch of other buses stopped, but all stops have been moved and it is a scavenger hunt to find the one you need. i had never taken the b62 before today. the brooklyn bus map had that line mis-labeled at one point, calling it the b63. which confused me. confused me. the bus maps have all kinds of typos on them. the b62 went along manhattan avenue in greenpoint, which is pretty familiar to me. the it veered onto driggs in williamsburg, which is the only street i know in the section. brooklyn is different from queens in that one wrong turn can land you in territory vastly different from what you were looking at 3 seconds earlier. queens is more of a city of cities, an amalgamation of towns. in fact queens is, literally, an amalgamation of towns that used to be independent but one day got subsumed by thecity of new york, retaining their names as neighborhood identifiers. by my account the divisions between these areas are still palpable. brooklyn is more uniform but nevertheless unpredictable. i was remembering those days when a co-worker drove me back the new york from long island, via east new york in brooklyn, which set the standard for eye-opening environments to wander into. into which to wander.

a friend is texting from rochester area complaining about some angry lesbians. aaaand the exchange has devolved from that lofty precipice…

time for a new laptop. a gateway, i think. first computer i ever got was a gateway 2000. then it was dell until theyhumiliated me with regard to a lemon laptop they sent me. eventually parts were replaced but at no small cost to my time and my dignity, and last night i saw in the Times that dell was outed for its knowing use of inferior and even dangerous parts in its p.o.s. computers. so it‘s been HP since then, but a Gateway sounds like a suitable risk to take considering how cheap these things are any more.

who cares…
